THE JOURNEY IS THE REWARD Watch Series

A decade ago, Swatch unveiled a meaningful timepiece inspired by the words that have become the cornerstone of the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation—“The Journey is The Reward.” It’s a phrase Brian jotted down more than 30 years ago, and in a twist of fate, those same words would later define a watch that celebrates life’s adventure.

On November 9, 2015, Swatch partnered with legendary big mountain snowboarder Jeremy Jones to launch two watches honoring his fearless spirit and groundbreaking film trilogy Deeper, Further, Higher. Known for climbing the world’s most remote peaks without helicopters, Jones has spent over two decades redefining what’s possible on a snowboard.

The limited-edition DEEPER, FURTHER, HIGHER (YVZ400S)—only 150 pieces—came packaged with his book No Words for the Way Down, a visual journey through his life and the mountains he’s climbed.

To make the design more accessible, Swatch released an unlimited version titled THE JOURNEY IS THE REWARD (YVZ400). Reflecting on the project, Jeremy shared: “I wanted to create a timeless, reliable, classic adventure watch… this dance with time is the key to success in life and in the mountains.”

On a personal note: the last watch our son Brian bought with his own hard-earned money in the late ’80s was a Swatch Jellyfish. That connection—between a young man’s appreciation of time, his enduring message, and a global tribute to adventure—feels especially profound.
